Giggs set to QUIT Man United after 29 years following Mourinho’s arrival

first_imgRyan Giggs is set to turn down a new role at Manchester United under Jose Mourinho and end his 29-year-association with the club.The Welshman has been assistant boss for the past two years after calling time on his glittering playing career in 2014.Giggs was being groomed for the top job and believed he was in prime position to eventually succeed Louis van Gaal.But after deciding to sack Van Gaal this summer, United instead moved to appoint the experienced Mourinho as their next boss.Giggs still has a year left on his contract at Old Trafford but Mourinho wants to bring in trusted assistant Rui Faria as his number two at Old Trafford.The 42-year-old is understood to have been offered a lesser role on the United coaching staff to try and convince him to stay on, but has yet to even hold talks with Mourinho.And, according to widespread reports, Giggs is now preparing to cut ties with the club and seek a managerial position elsewhere.That would end a glorious association with United.Having joined United as a 14-year-old, Giggs went on to play a record 963 times for the club, scoring 168 goals.He is also their most decorated player, with 13 Premier League titles and two Champions League successes among the honours he collected in his career.
